The extra distance travelled by the server for my "large" glass of fresh ice water that will always stick out in my dinner at Michael Lomonaco's new Porter House New York in the Time Warner Center -
Chugged the glass that he placed in front of me - then looked around - to request another - he was standing at the side of the table - pitcher in hand - anticpating my request - "...cause the restaurant doesn't have "large" glasses" - perfect -
A great table - up against the glass - overlooking Central Park - a view so spectacular the waiter would have to pour soup in my lap - ala Young Frankenstein - to spoil the evening - he did not -
The tenderloin (aka fillet) was perfect - as were the T Bone (Porterhouse for One) - Colorado Lamb Porterhouse (Chop) - Hudson Valley Duck Steak (massive portion) -
We were light on the apps - had to try the Oyster Pan Roast with Bacon, Brioche & Tomato Tarragon Cream - glad I did - they did not disappoint - 180 degrees in style from the Oyster Bar at Grand Central - I'd do them again -
No one tried the much acclaimed Smoked Beef Tongue Salad - whew !!!
Hash Browns were "steakhouse" worthy - Onion Rings were good - not great -
Creamed Spinach tasted good but the portion size was small to the point of being out of place while the $9 price was high to the point of expecting something special - same to be said for the sliced Brussel Sprouts -
The wine list was rich in choices without pricing that could have soared - my choice for the meal - Siduri Pisoni Pinot Noir 2003 - for which I have swooned before (What A Wow - May 2006)
It's Pisoni - fulfilling my personal craving for Pinots - satisfying my fellow diners' need for familiar tastes with its massive fruit forwardness - i.e. - always a win win -
The down side - hard to find - the Wine Director complimenting on my choice in the first breath - informing that there was no more - in her second -
We pulled two deserts for the four of us - Apple Brown Betty with Compote and Vanilla Ice Cream - must have been good as it never made it across the table - (a mere four top) - and - Ice Cream Sundae - semi do-it-yourself - luscious topper for the evening -
Always cynical of the Time Warner Center Dining Portfolio - Masa is beyond the monetary reach of sane mortals - Per Se is impossible to get into - Stone Rose is right out of Las Vegas - Judgment withheld on Cafe Grey until we take the plunge -
Porter House New York move me significantly towards thinking the building and certain parts could be more than a mere tourist trap for those that wanted to see how much money they could spend in the fewest square feet - i.e. - a New York Steakhouse frequented by New Yorkers -
Enjoy -
