Late NOLA lunch - first choice Casamento's - we were too late - second choice - just plain closed - third choice - BullDog Tavern - yes they were still serving -
50 beers on tap and a menu of "grub" prepared behind a pick-up window by a cook who has dyed his hair green - very dark room - classic tavern - but walk out the back door - up a short ramp - lovely outdoor space - lots of two tops and four tops - plus one very long wood table - and there's the waterfall -
The first time it was pointed out to me - saw only the water - nice touch to an outdoor space -
The second time it was pointed out to me - looked above the water - 50 draft beer taps spewing water - wonderful branding - this joint was BEER !!!
Though rumored to have a "great burger" - we opted for perfect Chicken Fingers and Waffle Fries - plus - a Bandito - a unique creation of crawfish and cheese wrapped inside a tortia that's then deep fried - call it a cajun egg roll - eat enough and it would probabliy kill you - but in the short run its a √√√√ yum -
One hurdle to overcome - you place your order at the pick up window - cross the room - push through the patrons already drinking - belly up to the bar - and pay the bartender - she gives marks your check PAID - you give it back to cook - he gives you a pager - ten minutes later (approx) the pager goes off - you walk back from the outdoor garden to claim your order - one plate - two plates - three plates - all with good and sauce - "do you have a tray" you naively ask - he looks at you like you're from Mars and walks away - i.e. - part of the charm as you work your way back to your table - delivering the food entitles one to a definite sense of accomplishmnet -
For drinks -
Abita Red Ale - brewed with British pale and crystal malts, Liberty hops and an ale yeast imported from Ireland. This ale has a rich ruby color, lacy collar, pronounced caramel flavor and is a tad "hoppier" than our other brews. Crisp - clean - ice cold - perfect for the 76 degree weather with 99% humidy - i.e - as my wife and daughter would say - a very bad hair day -
Abita Andygator - A creature of the swamp, Andygator is a unique high gravity brew made with 2-row pale malt, German lager yeast, and Liberty hops. Unlike other high gravity brews, Andygator is fermented to a dry finish. Very dry - shorter finish - I like it bigger - but definitely unique -
We left about 5:00 - the Bulldog was filling up - sitting at a table on the way out - very happy couple - splitting a cheese burger - lettuce - tomato - plus more stuff - big - definitely a "great burger" - definitely would have killed dinner - i.e. - next time -

Great stuff
