The group (12) was hard liquor - for me - the need for something red (plus I was driving home) - picking a moderately priced Pinot - as it was intended to also be poured for the table - asked the matre'd regarding "weight" - wanting enough body - broadening appeal to non-Pinot drinkers - he moved me up to - Flying Goat - Solomon Hills - Santa Maria Valley - 2005 - absolutely perfect -
Slight sour tang on first sip - mellowed as the Pinot was swirled in my glass - definitely had the body that was sought - nice cherry tones - not terribly sweet and/or heavy as some of the southern CA wines tend to be (which I love) - more complexity and refinement coming forth as the evening progressed - the wine acclimating to room temp - even though so young - a strong candidate for decanting - definitely add to future buy list -
Meal (and drinking) was at Croton Creek Steakhouse (northern Westchester) - buzzing - packed - great vibe - food & service to match -
My app was Mini-Lobster Sausage in Wild Mushroom Ragout - different - tasty - very unique - added a dash of salt & pepper - that may have been me - complemented the Chef when he came out - wrote for the recipe as soon as I got back to the computer -
Hi. I regret that we are unable to provide you with the recipe for the lobster sausage. It's a trade secret. I can see you laughing right now.
Going to have to de-construct these wonderful one-inch long Lobster links - in my own kitchen -
Main course for me was Fillet Mignon with Horseradish Creme Sauce - perfect piece of steak - don't know why they charged for sauces - shades of Michael Lomonico's Porter House when they opened - to Croton Creek's credit - the selection is extensive -
- Creamy Gorgonzola -
- Syrah Demi-Glace -
- Green Peppercorn Brandy -
- Shallot Red-Wine Reduction -
- Cajun Cream Sauce -
- Horseradish Cream -
- Herbed Truffle Butter -
- Smokey Avocado Butter -
- Stilton Blue with Chives -
- Chimichurri -
Even an "assemblage" of all sauces and toppers ($24) -
Prices were NYC -
- T-Bone 20-oz of which 6 at the table availed themselves - $38 -
- Porterhouse for two - $75 -
- Fillet - 14-oz - $48 -
Its not the Palm - but definitely one of the best suburban meals in recent memory - we had a blast -
Croton Creek Steakhouse & Wine Bar
4 West Cross Street
Croton Falls, New York

No Reservations Fri/Sat - but they did take care of our party of 12 -
By the by - somebody - someday - has to explain to me how suburban restaurants encourage customer to drink without paying all profits to the insurance companies -
