Below the radar for many visits - came to the forefront as an alternative brunch - passing on Praline Bacon at Elizabeth's ? - no Debris & Eggs at Dante's ?? - Patois ??? - it was a good alternative -
Practically every "find" in Nola is on some tiny side street - GPS can be a definite necessity - or - hire a car and driver - or - better yet - a local who's been before -
It's a beautiful casual restaurant - with white tablecloths - everything is just so - decor decidedly bright and warm - four tops across for the bar - then up a quarter flight to the second room - we were seated immediately -
Bellini - thank you - and - a spicy Bloody Mary with Tanquary - our waiter was quick - rev'd - future actor - maybe standup - his quips made everyone smile - "no peach ... we ran out of peach nectar" - the substitute Mimosa was perfect - my Bloody Mary - spiced without severe heat - immediately ordered a second one -
Sipped our cocktails - indulged in the sweet muffins that had been brought to the table - perused the menu - all sorts of great offerings for Brunch -
- Fried Oysters & Spinach Salad
- Smoked Rabbit & Andouille
- Gabure - white bean and vegetable soup with crispy port belly & arugula pistou (whew!!)
- Classic Patois Burger
- Croque Monsieur
- Croque Madame
- Omelettes
- Shrimp & Anson Mills Grits
- Fired Mississippi Rabbit
- Redfish
We both chose -
- Pulled Pork & Biscuits - topped with eggs - smoked tomato hollandaise & bacon braised greens - came with perfectly poached eggs - of which I am personally adverse - "could we get this taken off ... swapped out for scrambled perhaps" - my plate was whisked away - returned in a few minutes topped with perfect scrambled eggs - then topped with the delightfully tasty hollandaise
Dug In -
Light - well cooked - evenly pulled pork - retaining its moistness - atop the split biscuit - collard greens on the side of the dinner plate - adding an earthiness to the whole event - eggs complimenting - rounding out the flavors - giving a creamy - sensual - feel to the dish -
Offered dessert - too full - satisfied to indulge -
Such a romantic place - easily envisioned the space lit by candles - it calls one back - food - service - excellence - the experience which is dining in New Orleans -
