111th & Broadway - packed and rocking - Saturday night -
A beautifully warm room on the first floor - then up a long - steep flight of stairs - Voilà - another equally beautiful room with an open patio space complete with waterfall - at the very end - plus sliding doors - allowing privacy for a party of 10 or 12 (very tight) - an outdoor private dining room - a mini oasis in the midst of a space that just kept surprising - who knew -
Richard Bill (GM) has put together another outstanding wine program - you can painlessly go from a Johnson Family Napa Cab 08 ($45) - excellent - big fruit - ready to drink - no tannins to fight - you will want to buy a case - and at the other end - Palmer 05 ($620) - take out a mortgage - lots of other stuff under 50 - all the way down to the mid 20s - strong bourbons - they have Baker's - so I was happy - plus half a dozen reasonably priced cognacs - you can even choose to drink - downstairs or upstairs - both spaces intimate and warm -
Chef Amitzur Mor comes out of Bouley and Payard - what could be better -
- Cheese Boards & Charcuterie from the station upstairs - plus - small plates - salads - paninis - dug into my warm - rich - portobello & cheese - enjoying every bite -
- Big plates from the downstairs kitchen - fish - chicken - dry aged ribeye - burgers -
Most importantly - there is the buzz - the joint is jumping - and it was about to get hotter - as the disk jockey cranked up at 11 til 2:30 - or - whatever bedtime is -
